Organizing Your Office Space

Whenever possible, items that you use on a regular basis should be within arm’s reach. I use several binders for my various meetings and I finally found an oak desk that has a shelf just large enough to place twelve binders under the pullout keyboard drawer. It saves me a tremendous amount of time now that I don’t have to get up and walk across the room every time I need to refer to something from one of the meeting binders.

I keep my phone book log standing up on the desk, an ink pen and a highlighter along with the tape dispenser and the three-hold punch. Everything else is in drawers. I can not afford to be distracted by “stuff” and I have found it helps keep my mind focused to keep the clutter to a minimum.

As my work changed and expanded to focusing on more of my speaking, I have three computers on the desk. One laptop is for transferring audio recordings to text files, one I use to check email or search for specific information on the Internet and the third is to work on the immediate project I am focused on.
